Old Loafers

Ten sunny days and some more windy and clody ones -Nort Spanish summer issues-, three music festivals, sunburning, parties, dinners with friends, alarms set off in the morning, trips, staying up late in the countryhouse, iced cream coffees sitting away from the sun, messing up with my parents' wardrobe, in which I found this shirt and my beloved black loafers, missing people and stuff from Stirling, León and even closer.

All in a nutshell, I do not want summer to be over. I do not want to finish my degree. However, I am looking forward to know what comes next.

Arizona feet

There were three things I was looking forward to achieve this summer: BBK fest (I finally made it), Dcode (i have already purchased my ticket) and buying a pair of Birkenstock. I found them out last summer at the end of August and I realized it was too late for wearing them. This summer I was quicker, I totally recommended (comfy sandals ever). However, take your time before you take a long walk with them. Several stores have designed their own pairs of Brikenstock, so I supposed they have finally become a must this year.

Coca-Cola shirt was bought in Edinburgh (Primark). Really cheap, with a pop culture groove that pleases almost everyone. Sincerely, do you guys know anyone in the entire world who dislikes coke? (it is possible, but hard to believe anyway).

Me sorprendió mucho.

I have been intending to make up my summer plans, and first of all was NOS Primavera Sound 2014. I bet you have heard about Primavera Sound before, the music fest which takes place every year in Barcelona. NOS is the same as Optimus, a "low-cost" version of the same festival with less groups but more affordable. It takes place in Porto, Portugal.

I had never been to Portugal before and I even felt ashamed about it since it is not really far from home. I was surprised about how much I loved the city. The great design of buildings, a bohemian groove and carismatic pedestrians made me think about coming back next year.

We had enough time for tourism, taking pics and drinking some caipirinhas before the show with some as Spoon, Rodrigo Amarante, Caetano Veloso, Kendrick Lamar, Sky Ferreira and Haim. I really liked the last three I mentiones; Kendrick Lamar was energical and overwhelming, the crowd was huge and it was really impressive. Ferreira surprised me showing herself as provocative and outrageous in a subtle and accurate way. I was not surprised about Haim at all, I expected a live performance full of energy and so it was; one of the best shows I have seen in my life.

These are some pics about my outfit, places I visited and the shows. Some of them may not be in this post, so you can check them in my Instagram account (@danigorey). Sorry about typos I may make (text too long and I am in a hurry) and hope you have a stunning summer!

End of the trip

I am finally staying in Spain from now on, I am sad because I do not know if I will be coming back someday, but in any case I am delighted of having achieved one of my wishes: going on Erasmus and live a whole year in another country. I strongly recommend it.

Roughly speaking, Erasmus programme consists on a year that you can spend freely, you have plenty of time for doing whatever you want. You are told to study but that does not really matter at all. It is time to travel, discover new places and meeting people with different kinds of culture. It is the chance of your life for changing your routine, even if it is only for a short time.

After this introduction (I hope it was not too long), I explain the post: all stuff has a story or memory attached. This was supposed to be a fashion blog, so as it was a kind of scrapbook, every garment or item is related to something that has happened during this year, a year that I will never forget.

Courses in uni took place in two buildings. One of them worked in some ways as a leisure center: there were cafés as Starbuck, eating lounges, bookshops, gift shops and a hall which lots of free pizzas and posters or vintage clothes you could buy. I remember finishing my lessons and freaking out about how insane it was. This denim jacket has become one of my favourites, I was wearing it when I visited the cliff at the very end of Europe (according to Google Maps).

The arrival to a new city is exciting and makes you walk around for hours and exploring. When I had nothing to do, I loved to take a walk and checking those classic pubs that are unavoidably charming. These t-shirts remind me the first time and everything was so confusing to me.

It is widely known how nice and polite Scottish people are. This year I have also noticed how big their initiative is. I visited a "free shop" in which people brought everything they did not need (and by 'everything' I really mean 'EVERYTHING'). You could take all the stuff you wanted for free, and obviously, leaving something you were not interested in. Someone 'gave' to me -unintentionally- those Nikes, guilty of those crazy Thursday nights in which you go dancing and are always unsure about what time you will be heading home. I bought Birkenstock there as well, being one of the pairs 60% off.

You will probably know that cliché about British isles citizens who do not care about cold weather. Obviously, it has not to be neccessarily true, but I recognise that you find strange all those people wearing very light jackets which are nice but not practical at all, like the one I show you. 2nd hand and spotless, it reminded me to disco balls, scandalous hairstyles and trashy admired 80s outfits.

I had to include something else apart from fashion. As I said before, university was full of small local shops. I could not avoid to buy a shopper bag and a polo as it was some kind of merchandising for me. I love reading books in the original language if possible; I like the new e-book trend but I must recognise nothing compares to that feeling of buying a brand new book in a classic way. Stirling bookshop has provided me plenty of time for culture, either in English or even French. I have to remark how cheap books are comparing to Spanish prices.

Southampton Old Cemetery

When I saved some money and scheduled all my business, I took my suitcase and went to Southampton to visit a friend. I have heard a lot about iit but I had never been there. It is not quite big, but there are people and it is dynamic city. The deck is really interesting and the cemetery, where these pics were taken, gathers some vestiges of II World War and Titanic's crew. There is a park not far from there which is enormous and really wel--considered by ecologists. There was some tall vegetation and trees that made me think of that maze of bushes in The Shining, one of my favourite movies. There was sunshine and the walk was pleasant, I recommend you to take a stroll there if you are planning to travel around South England someday.

About the look you would have realised that I finally made it and got my biker jakcet. It is not the best one ever but it is enough for me. Sunglasses are also new, I needed to purchase some new designs and I really like this one. It had been a long time since I last wore the shoes that you already know.

Thanks Mamen for taking all the pics and being sooo patient.

Blue stakes are used to note that there is a member of the Titanic's crew lying there, in the same way red crosses indicate the place of soldiers in II World War

Glasgow Meets Zombie

Going to Glasgow from my place is only a matter of time and feeling like in a 'city mood'. It is one of the biggest cities in UK and it does not seem too Scottish because of tis contemporary look. However, it is the perfect place to live in my opinion. Perhaps it is because where it is place and the fact that I am now more or less accustomed to the accent (which is bringing me down most of the times).

Crowded streets with huge buildings; some of them with a traditional appearance and some others look like ones from a really modern city. Street art represented by graffittis which were literally enormous and a great ambience if you want to go shopping, visiting modern art galleries and chatting while drinking several beer jars.

We had a wonderful day and my thickest garment was The Zombie Kids sweatshirt. I bought it almost two years ago and even if I have worn it a lot of times, it is as flawless as the first day. In a foreign city it may be a reason for receiving curious glances; those who see a funny parody of Burger King's logotype and those who are Spanish as well and read the name of the group, and sometime they will probably wonder if you are Spanish as them.

Air Max Day

I bet you will be fed up with ads in Instagram and Twitter about the 'Air Max Day'. 27 years ago Nike Air Max first pair of sneakers was released. Its remakes and versions have made Nike become one of the most important sportsbrand in the whole world, and the Air Max the trendiest sneakers nowadays.

In 1987, when Air Max 1 was released, several customers did not feel happy about how the shoe was. The see-through bouncing sole was not a good feature for that kind of running shoe in their opinion. However, it happenned what it was expected; Air Max were slowly sold to those sportsmen who actually needed these shoes and the trendsetters who considered Air Max something new and astonishing. Tinker Hatfield was the responsible for Air Max 1, those who cause a "creative revolution" in fashion industry.

Honestly, I was not really into Air Max some years ago. Afterwards, sneakers' trend arrived and almost every designer tried to offer their own sneakers in the runways. Since I bought my first pair of Nike (Air Vengeance VTG, you will probably have seen them around in this blog) I have been looking for some Air Max I liked but I did not succeed. I only liked those which appeared in Instagram pic or limited editions that were out of my reach.

Today I wanted to write about Air Max choosing some designs that I really liked. Some of them are only by Nike but there are a few that came after a colab with other brands. I have ordered mine (finally!) and I will not reveal how they are like until I get them (they are in my Spanish house). Anyway, I hope you will be able to see them soon in this blog or in my Instagram profile (@danigorey). Finally, let me tell you; all those who are already enjoying their Air Max, you are so lucky! And those who are not yet, it is time to save some money (that is the truth, unfortunately).

Sunglasses wanted

Since I came to Scotland I do not have a routine. My timetable is extremely weird, I am not able to get used to lunch time and that stuff and daylight does not last too long. I am in a quite small city but there are always paths and places you have to look for really carefully. Some weeks ago there was a lot of sunshine. I left my sunglasses at home but I brought my camera instead, and I could finally use it after having it repaired.

About the outfit, you know that I am not really into jogging pants, but there are always those days in which you only want to feel comfy and do not give a shit about what you are wearing.
