Air Max Day

Seguro que hoy estaréis cansados de leer en Twitter e Instagram algo llamado "Air Max Day". Y es que tal día como hoy hace 27 años, el primer modelo de Nike Air Max fue lanzado al mercado. Sus posteriores reediciones han dado lugar a uno de los modelos de zapatillas más importantes del mercado, siendo actualmente uno de los calzados de moda.

En 1987, cuando la Air Max 1 fue lanzada, muchos compradores se mostraron escépticos ante la idea de incorporar una cámara de aire a una zapatilla de running, lo cual rompía totalmente con la estética de los productos de Nike hasta ese momento. Sin embargo, como todo, fueron introduciéndose en la vida de amantes del deporte, consumidores de este tipo de calzado, y otros no tan deportistas, que veían unas zapatillas originales y atractivas. A Tinker Hatfield le debemos el diseño de las Air Max 1, las que implicaron una "revolución creativa" en el mundo de la moda y en la industria textil.

Sinceramente, hace unos años no me llamaba la atención este tipo de calzado, hasta que posteriormente llegó el boom de las zapatillas: todos los diseñadores se subían al carro. Cuando compré mis primeras Nike (las Air Vengeance VTG, las habréis visto por aquí) me empecé a fijar en más productos de la marca, con el problema de que no me convencían los colores que Nike ofrecía para las Air Max. Solo encontraba las que me gustaban en fotos de Instagram o en ediciones limitadas fuera de mi alcance.

Hoy quería hacer un pequeño homenaje mostrando alguno de los modelos que más me han gustado, algunos son exclusivamente de Nike y otros han sido producto de colaboraciones con otras firmas. Yo ya he pedido las mías (¡por fin!), mantendré la intriga de cómo son hasta que me las envíen (las tengo en mi casa de España) pero espero que pronto las veáis por aquí o en mi instagram (@danigorey). Mientras tanto, a los que ya disfrutáis de estas zapatillas que las aprovechéis al máximo, y a los que no, nos toca ahorrar (todo sea dicho).

Its remakes and versions have made Nike become one of the most important sportsbrand in the whole world, and the Air Max the trendiest sneakers nowadays.

In 1987, when Air Max 1 was released, several customers did not feel happy about how the shoe was. The see-through bouncing sole was not a good feature for that kind of running shoe in their opinion. However, it happenned what it was expected; Air Max were slowly sold to those sportsmen who actually needed these shoes and the trendsetters who considered Air Max something new and astonishing. Tinker Hatfield was the responsible for Air Max 1, those who cause a "creative revolution" in fashion industry.

Honestly, I was not really into Air Max some years ago. Afterwards, sneakers' trend arrived and almost every designer tried to offer their own sneakers in the runways. Since I bought my first pair of Nike (Air Vengeance VTG, you will probably have seen them around in this blog) I have been looking for some Air Max I liked but I did not succeed. I only liked those which appeared in Instagram pic or limited editions that were out of my reach.

Today I wanted to write about Air Max choosing some designs that I really liked. Some of them are only by Nike but there are a few that came after a colab with other brands. I have ordered mine (finally!) and I will not reveal how they are like until I get them (they are in my Spanish house). Anyway, I hope you will be able to see them soon in this blog or in my Instagram profile (@danigorey). Finally, let me tell you; all those who are already enjoying their Air Max, you are so lucky! And those who are not yet, it is time to save some money (that is the truth, unfortunately).

Desde que me vine a Escocia no tengo rutina. Horarios de clase muy extraños, horarios de comidas a los que no me he terminado de acostumbrar y días que terminan mucho antes. Aunque estoy en una ciudad pequeña que en cuatro días la tienes más que vista, hay un montón de atajos y caminos que no sabes que están ahí hasta que no vuelves una, dos y hasta tres veces. Hace como dos o tres semanas hizo un sol espectacular. Me dejé las gafas de sol en casa sin querer, pero a cambio me llevé la cámara, también sin querer, y la di un poco de uso después de haberla arreglado por fin.

Sobre el look, ya sabéis que no soy muy partidario del chándal, pero todos tenemos días en que nos apetece ir más bien cómodos y no nos importa mucho lo que llevar.

Since I came to Scotland I do not have a routine. My timetable is extremely weird, I am not able to get used to lunch time and that stuff and daylight does not last too long. I am in a quite small city but there are always paths and places you have to look for really carefully. Some weeks ago there was a lot of sunshine. I left my sunglasses at home but I brought my camera instead, and I could finally use it after having it repaired.

About the outfit, you know that I am not really into jogging pants, but there are always those days in which you only want to feel comfy and do not give a shit about what you are wearing.

86th Academy Awards

Anoche fue, como probablemente todos sabréis ya, la 86º ceremonia de entrega de los Premios Oscar en el teatro Dolby de Los Ángeles. La gran fiesta del cine causó la expectación habitual, en la cual fue Gravity la gran vencedora (con 7 premios), 12 años de esclavitud como mejor película, y actores como Lupita Nyong'o (mejor actriz de reparto en 12 años de esclavitud), Jared Leto (mejor actor de reparto en Dallas Buyers Club) o Matthew McConaughey (mejor actor protagonista en Dallas Buyers Club, adelantándosele a Di Caprio). La gala fue amena gracias a la labor de Ellen DeGeneres como anfitriona, sencillamente genial. Y aquí estoy yo, con mis ojeras y mis bostezos para daros mi visión sobre lo que se vio en la alfombra roja.

Ya con los ojos puestos en la ceremonia, en una gala marcada por las modas "recicladas" de los selfies, el photobomb y los discursos inspiradores, encontramos el estilismo de las actrices en general correcto, aunque poco innovador. En cambio, ellos han decidido arriesgar e ir un paso más allá (con mayor o menor acierto): las pajaritas extravagantes, el color o el blanco fueron algunos de los recursos empleados.

As you all will probably know by now, last night the 86th Academy Awards' ceremony took place in Dolby Theatre, LA. The biggest event in film industry was highly exciting as it tends to be every year. Gravity was the clear winner with 7 awards and 12 Years A Slave became Best Picture. Acting awards were given out to Lupita Nyong'o (Best Actress in a Supporting Role in 12 Years A Slave), Jared Leto (Best Actor in a Supporting Role in Dallas Buyers Club) and Matthew McConaughey (Best Actor in a Leading Role in Dallas Buyers Club) who made Di Caprio losing his chance of winning once again. Ceremony turned out nice and entertaining provided Ellen DeGeneres' brilliant job as hostess of the show. And now here I am, really sleepy but it is worth it to tell you my perspective on Oscars ceremony's style issue.

Concerning the ceremony, clearly defined by the "old-but-renewed" fashion things such as selfies and photobomb, we find out that actresses' were stylish but they did not innovate a lot. On the other hand, men have moved one step forward, risking with colours and accesories. Partial white looks and unseen bow-ties were some of the resources they relied on.

Las opciones clásicas nunca fallan en una gala de este tipo, por lo que Michael Fassbender y Bradley Cooper  fueron a lo seguro, y salieron bien parados. Aunque ambos son icónicos en lo que a elegancia se refiere este año, me gusta más el estilo de Fassbender, en mi opinión "le pega" más. Impecables.

Classical choices are never wrong in this kind of events, so Cooper and Fassbender were both enough dressed up and they turned out as two of the smartest men in the ceremony. However, I personally prefer Fassbender, I love his style and I think formal outfits really suit him.

La primera muestra de originalidad fue de Jared Leto y Matthew McConaughey. El primero fue el más comentado en redes sociales también por su peinado. No soy muy fan de lo blanco en las americanas, y aunque en este caso ambos lo visten elegantemente, creo que McConaughey lo lleva mejor.

First ones who dared wearing something out of the norm were Jared Leto and Matthew McConaughey. Leto was also trending topic in Twitter because of his peculiar hairstyle. I am not really into white suits. In this images, they both wear it proudly and smartly, but I prefer McConaughey's.

Leonardo Di Caprio fue, un año más, quien se fue de vacío a casa, lo cual ya empieza a ser una costumbre. Aun así, siempre nos deja una buena impresión con su presencia y nunca falla en lo que a elegancia se refiere. Optó por el estilo clásico, incluso da la sensación de que el traje ha sido elegido al milímetro para él (anchura de las solapas, etc).

Leonardo Di Caprio did not win his award either this year. However, it is always a pleasure to spot him with his stylish looks. He never fails at this kind of events. He showed up with a suit that seemed perfect for him.

Y cierro la entrada con lo que, a mi parecer, fue el descalabro de la noche. En un (quizás) intento de llevar un poco de frescura a la ceremonia, Pharrell Williams apareció en la alfombra roja con un traje de Lanvin con bermudas. Creo que este atuendo es demasiado informal para tal evento y que el efecto que provocó podría llegar a rozar incluso la risa. Mal.

I finish this post with the biggest failure of the night. Maybe he was trying to be original or something, but Pharrell Wiliams showed up in the red carpet with a Lanvin suit with shorts. I think this was a casual outfit that was out of its place or circumstances. It was even funny and embarrassing at the same time. Wrong, Pharrell.
