I Premios Feroz 2014

Soy muy fan de las ceremonias de premios, sobre todo con las de cine. Intento verlas siempre que puedo, y como en todos los acontecimientos de importancia (pertenezcan al campo que sea, la entrega del Balón de Oro sin ir más lejos) se combina el arte, la actualidad, la moda y la tendencia.

El pasado lunes fue la primera edición de los Premios Feroz, concedidos por la Asociación de Informadores Cinematográficos de España, y que servían como antesala de los Premios Goya. En esta gala pudimos apreciar cómo los profesionales del cine se ponían sus mejores galas para acudir al evento. El nivel general me gustó bastante (tampoco tengo un criterio muy estricto), y por ello hoy me apetecía analizar el estilo de algunos candidatos.

I am really into awards' ceremonies like Golden Globes, Oscars, etc. I always try to watch most of them, and like all the events that are this relevant (no matter who they are addressed to) art is combined with social press, fashion and different trends.

Last Monday the first edition of Feroz Awards was carried out in Spain. These awards are given out by the Spanish press and they are kind of a 'prologue' to Goya Awards, the biggest ones on Spanish cinema. In this ceremony it was remarkable how celebrities related to cinematographic arts' field did their best in order to look stylish. I had a good first impression overall (I do not have such rough criteria) and this is the reason why I felt like analysing and commenting on how some nominees looked that night.

La apuesta masculina fue bastante sobria en líneas generales, pero adecuada. No hubo estilismos estridentes y las opciones eran clásicas en general, algunos con más acierto que otros.

Men's choices were generally sober but suitable for the event. None of the outfits turned out as extravagant or a bad look. The outfits that were shows followed a classic pattern; some of them were more succesful and some other were not:

Antonio de la Torre (izquierda) tiene un estilo poco definido que le hace elegir mejor en situaciones informales que si se trata de una gala. El resultado no es tan malo como podría esperarse (la gama de colores encaja) pero creo que con su estilo, si se limitase a los trajes sería una muy buena opción. Por otro lado, Daniel Sánchez Arévalo (derecha) decidió sustituir la americana por un abrigo largo, lo cual me pareció un acierto. Logró distinguirse sin abandonar la línea de formalidad de la gala.

Antonio de la Torre (on the left) has not a pretty defined style; he looks better with informal looks. The outcome is not as bad as it could have been expected. However, I consider that a suit would fit him perfectly. On the other hand, Daniel Sánchez Arévalo (on the right) wore a long coat instead of the classic blazer. He did perfect; he was able to make a difference and he remained in the dresscode guidelines.

Raúl Arévalo hizo una apuesta segura con un traje en azul, la corbata con el ancho perfecto y una presencia inigualable. En una gala donde probablemente el negro iba a ser el protagonista, elegir otro color dentro de los neutros es una buena opción.

Raúl Arévalo took the easy way with a dark blue suit. The tie was enough wide to not to seem old-fashioned and his attitude was amazing. Ceremony's colour was probably going to be black, so choosing another colour (nothing out of the norm) was not the worng decision at all.

Estoy satisfecho con lo que se vio en la alfombra roja, pero como siempre decimos, es inevitable tener un preferido. Javier Pereira dio la sorpresa. Logró innovar sin pasarse de la raya y eligió un traje con estampado de ¿topos? en el punto medio exacto entre lo elegante y lo que podría considerarse extravagante. Arriesgó también con la pajarita, pero lo cierto es que ha dado muy buen resultado.

I am generally satisfied with everything it was shown on the red carpet. However, it is unavoidable to have a favourite outfit. Javier Pereira was flawless and surprising. He was able to make an innovation without going further than what was accepted and chose a suit with a dot print (were those dots? I could not see them properly). It was the most accurate choice between a smart look and something that could become tacky in an inappropiate way. The bow-tie was risky as well, but finally it turned out a huge success. Congrats Javier!

Podríamos decir que Hugo Silva ya muestra un estilo propio; se le ha visto siempre bien vestido y combinando la comodidad con el buen gusto, como es el caso. Siguiendo la tónica general que se observó en varios casos en la gala, eligió el total black, por lo general favorecedor, y no apostó por corbata o pajarita. Es sencillo pero adecuado.

We can say that Hugo Silva has found out his own style; he is most of the times well dressed and makes it possible to be classy and comfy at the same time. As many other celebrities in the ceremony, he chose a total black outfit, which is generally good-looking on most of the people. He did not take any neck accessories. It is a simple look but it is suitable at the same time.

Aunque procuro centrarme en la moda masculina por varias razones (es la que más me llama y abunda mucho más la femenina en cualquier otro blog de internet), no he podido evitar hacer referencia a dos de las actrices que llamaron mi atención. A continuación, las dos mejor vestidas a mi parecer:

Although I try to focus on men's fashion for some reasons (it is what I like the most and we already have plenty of information about women's one), I cannot help mentioning two of the actesses that I considered the best dressed ones. Here they are:

Inma Cuesta desafió la superstición del amarillo que propició la muerte de Molière en su día y eligió un vestido de Dolores Promesas que, pese a la tradición, les dio suerte. Teniendo en cuenta la gran variedad del vestuario femenino, dar en el clavo con un color tan llamativo no era fácil.

Inma Cuesta was brave to wear a yellowdress according to the bad luck that is associated with this colour. However, the dress by Dolores Promesas made her lucky. Having into account how wide the women's choices are, it was not easy to be accurate in the selection of the outfit.

Solo espero que no se note en estas líneas el gran fanatismo que siento por Blanca Suárez. Impecable, guapísima como siempre, eligió un vestido de Roberto Diz con detalles en los hombros y la cintura. Puede que los detalles pudieran haber sido más discretos, pero aun así, impecable.

I hope that it cannot be noticed how fan I am whenever Blanca Suárez comes up in a conversation. She was flawless, goreous as we are used to see her. Her dress was by Roberto Diz, a black, tight one with some details in the shoulders and the waist. Maybe the details could have been smaller, but she is amazing anyway.

Los 5 productos de estas rebajas

Seguramente este año hayáis leído varios comentarios sobre las rebajas: reducciones de precio no muy significativas, cambio de etiquetas, falta de productos, etc. He estado de acuerdo con estos comentarios teniendo en cuenta que este año las rebajas no han sido muy fructíferas: al final acabas comprando algo que querías pero que resulta ser de nueva colección y que, por miedo a que se agote, te lo llevas.

Indagando en diferentes webs, he hecho una selección que me hubiera gustado que fuera más amplia, pero que no ha sido así debido a que no encontraba cosas que llamasen mi atención. Vamos allá.

I am sure that you may have read some negative comments on this year's sales: they were not really big, the clothes were mislabelled, there were not enough garments, etc. I agree with some of these statements; this year I am not satisfied with January sales. You will probably end up buying something from the new arrivals because you are afraid of being late and finding out it is sold out.

I have been looking into several websites and I have made a choice that I wish it was wider. Actually, I did not find a lot of stuff that were interesting for me, so let's see:

Leí en alguna parte que los cuellos con contraste volverían pisando fuerte esta temporada. Siempre me han gustado, pero nunca he pasado del cuello mao con un bordado, o cosas así. Esta camisa vaquera tiene el cuello de terciopelo negro, y es un detalle que me ha gustado bastante. Está en Zara: valía 29.95€ y ahora podéis encontrarla a 15.99€ (pero más vale que corráis, tengo la impresión de que volará).

I read somewhere that the contrast in collars will be a new trend this season. I have always liked them, but I have never bought such a thing -just a mao collar shirt which is actually nice-. This denim shirt has a black velvet collar; that is a detail that I really liked. It is by Zara; was 29.95€ and now is 15.99€ (you better hurry up, I have the bad hunch that they will be sold out soon).

Vi esta sudadera hace poco en una tienda y me gustó el detalle de las cremalleras. El detalle de las mangas bicolor le da un aire old school. Se encuentra en la colección de Adidas Originals al 50% de descuento: de 75€ a 37€. También la hay disponible en azul/blanco y gris/amarillo, aunque a mí esta combinación con el burdeos es la que más me gusta.

I saw this sweatshirt a few days ago and I love the zips detail. The sleeves in another colour suggests an old school inspiration. This one is in Adidas Originals collection with the 50% off; from 75€ to 37€. It is also available in white/blue and grey/yellow. However, this mix of black and burgundy is the one I like the most.

Los bolsos satchel se han convertido en una tendencia casi unisex; su consumo se ha extendido en ambos mercados y por ello se ha convertido en un accesorio con el que se suele acertar. Este os lo traigo de Asos, y si es cierto que es de piel auténtica, es una ganga: su precio ha bajado desde los 77.25€ hasta los 39.92€.

Satchel bags have become a nearly unisex trend; nowadays we can find them targeted to both sexes in the same way. This one is by Asos, and if it is actually 100% leather, it is a total bargain. It was 77.25€ and now it is 39.92€.

Los que me lean habitualmente ya sabrán que soy un gran defensor de los zapatos con hebillas, y que estoy cada dos por tres animándoos a comprar un par. Massimo Dutti supone una inversión en lo que a calzado se refiere, por lo que esta es una buena oportunidad para haceros con unos. Valían 89.95€ y ahora ya los tenéis a 49.95€.

Those who are used to reading the blog will know that I am really into monkstrap shoes, and that I am always encouraging you to get some. Massimo Dutti products are a synonym of quality, so your money will be well spent. This is a good chance to purchase some shoes; they were 89.95€ and now they are 49.95€

Si, por el contrario, no os veis con zapato clásico y preferís unas zapatillas para el día a día, las Vans para Kenzo siguen pegando fuerte. Este modelo es el único -de cordones- que he encontrado rebajado, también disponible en beige/rosa palo/lo que sea eso con azul marino. Yo, personalmente, prefiero estas. Me parecen más bonitas y hoy por hoy su precio se acerca más al resto de productos de Vans (de 90€ a 63€).

On the other hand, if you are not used to classic shoes and you would rather prefer sneakers, the Vans x Kenzo collection is still releasing pretty interesting offers. This shoe is the only one with laces that I have found in sales, it is also availabe in beige/pale pink/whichever colour it is mixed withdark blue. I personally prefer these ones, they seem nicer to me. Its current price is now closer to other products by Vnas (from 90€ to 63€).

Sexy Zebras - Corofobia

Cuadros, gorros y vías de tren

Ya sea por ese tiempo gris que tenía Mieres ese día o por el look que os voy a enseñar hoy, esta entrada tiene un sabor ligeramente norteño, o incluso británico si lo deseáis.

En Stirling apuestan más por las tiendas locales y los outlets que por las franquicias más conocidas. Quería un abrigo y no estaba muy seguro de lo que quería: estaba un poco cansado del negro y de las formas rectas. Encontré este abrigo en TKMaxx, rebajado a £45 (valía £150). Me lo probé y me iba perfecto; este año estoy teniendo mucha suerte con las ofertas.

Según lo vi y lo descolgué del burro me vinieron muchas imágenes a la cabeza, pero todas con algo en común: este abrigo es demasiado inglés.

I am not sure if it is because of the 'grey weather' in Mieres or because of today's look, but this post has a greatly slight Northern vibe, or even British if you want to say it.

There are more local stores and outlets that big fashion franchises in Stirling. I felt like buying a new coat and I did not know what I wanted: I was fed up with black colour and straight shapes in garments. I found this one in TKMaxx, it was £45 (previously it was £150). I tried it on and it suited me perfectly; I have been really lucky with sales this year.

When I first took it I had kind of a 'brainstorming'; all ideas suggested me how British the coat seemed.

Hel Looks

Estaba recopilando fotos de street style para una nueva entrada cuando de repente mi amiga Sara me enseñó este blog. Me puse en contacto con ellos inmediatamente, y me dieron luz verde para hacer esta entrada, por lo que allá vamos.

Este blog es propiedad de Liisa Jokinen y Sampo Karjalainen, cuya finalidad es capturar imágenes de los atuendos más innovadores de las calles de la ciudad de Helsinki. Ya conocemos los blogs que siguen esta línea como The Sartorialist, pero Hel Looks me parece más "exótico", por así decirlo. Inmortalizan los looks que son únicos y originales, por lo que me he encontrado combinaciones muy originales que creo que no se suelen ver aquí en España, ya sea por los medios o simplemente por las divergencias culturales y/o estéticas. Con cada fotografía se recogen unas citas breves sobre la visión de la moda de cada uno de los modelos, y sobre lo que llevan puesto.

I was gathering some street style pics when my friend Sara showed me this blog. I got in touch with them inmediately and they allowed me to create this entry.

Liisa Jokinen and Sampo Karjalainen own this blog, which is devoted to take pics of the most interesting outfits that are worn by people living in Helsinki. We know some blogs following this style, like The Sartorialist, but Hel Looks seems more 'exotic' to me, let´s say. They spot looks that are unique and highly original. These ones hardly ever exist in Spain,, since the garments or the cultural/aesthetic factors are really different between both areas of Europe. Every Hel Looks´photograph includes some quotations below about how people live fashion and a description of the outfit.

Me gusta este look por el tono invernal que propone, las formas poco definidas y el sombrero es la guinda del pastel que hace el conjunto sofisticado.

I love natural materials and the colour grey.” I like this winter look with non-defined shapes; the hat is the essential detail that makes the whole outfit sofisticated.

"Siempre llevo calcetines raros de colores. Cuando compro un nuevo par, le doy un calcetín a mi hermano y yo me quedo el otro." La unión de las prendas hacen que todo el conjunto parezca una. La bolsa rompe con lo monocromático del negro, y aunque los zapatos dan buen resultado, yo añadiría como alternativa unas deportivas en colores llamativos.

"I always wear odd, colourful socks. When I buy a new pair, I give one sock to my brother and keep the other one.” All clothes together get to seem an only one in black. The shopper bag breaks with the total black look, and even if the black shoes are good on this, I would suggest bright-coloured sneakers as an alternative.

"Mi estilo es bastante aleatorio. Me gustan los colores poco ortodoxos y las combinaciones de estampados - no entiendo qué es eso de combinar los colores. Me gustan las pequeñas marcas de ropa de Finlandia como Kaksitvå y Burlesque Tsunami." Aun así, esta vez ha acertado. Tengo una chaqueta con un estampado que me recuerda a esa y que pronto os enseñaré (espero). La simplicidad es clave aquí.


“My style is pretty random. I like unorthodox colour and print combinations – I don't understand matching colours. I like Finnish small labels like Kaksitvå and Burlesque Tsunami.” Even if she says that, she has done the right thing this time. I have a jacket with a print like that and I hope I will show it to you soon. Simplicity is highly important in this look.

"Compro o ropa vintage o en COS. Hedi Slimane tiene un buen estilo." Y el último look es sin duda lo más parecido a lo que estamos acostumbrados a ver por aquí. Combinación que nunca falla: chaqueta (¿eso es vaquero?), una camisa con un estampado en un término medio, pantalón negro y zapatos. El toque del gorro y el color de los calcetines ayudan a que el look sea más 'interesante' de lo que podría parecer en un principio.


“I shop either vintage or at Cos. Hedi Slimane has a good style.” And the last look is surely the most similar to all those outfits we are used to see in South Europe. A combination that never fails: jacket (is that denim?), shirt with a suitable print, black trousers and shoes. The beanie and the camel socks make the look more 'interesting' than what it could seem.

The Troggs - With A Girl Like You

Antes de nada, ¡feliz Año Nuevo a todos!

Hoy vengo para hablaros de música. Creo que junto con los idiomas, la moda o la lectura sea una de las cosas que más me interesan. Y es que el 90% de mi tiempo me encontraréis pegado al iPod, o diseñando listas de reproducción. Os propongo siete temas que me han estado acompañando este año o que me han acompañado al comienzo de este 2014.

PD. De ahora en adelante, dado que veo comentarios de personas extranjeras con frecuencia intentaré escribir las entradas también en inglés. Me lo planteé mucho tiempo y temía que resultase caótico, pero ahí voy. Disculpas adelantadas por los posibles errores.

First of all, happy New Year!

Today I am going to talk about music. I think that it is one of the things I am more interested in besides languages, fashion or literature. Actually I tend to be attached to my iPod the 90% of my time or creating playlists. I recommend you seven different songs that I have listening to all this year long or during the beginning of 2014.

PD. Since I have noticed that there are some comments from English speakers in the blog, from now on I will try to type my posts in English as well. I had considered it long time ago and I was afraid it turned out chaotic, but finally here I go! My apologies in advance for some mistakes I might make.

1. Arcade Fire - Reflektor

Tenía muchas expectativas en el nuevo álbum de Arcade Fire. No es el mejor de su carrera, obviamente, y requiere abrir un poco la mente: sonidos muy experimentales, amados y criticados a partes iguales. Este Reflektor fue el primer single y fue un buen anticipo de lo que para mí fue un buen álbum.

My expectations about new Arcade Fire's album were really high. Obviously, it is not their best album and forces us to broaden our mind: experimental tunes loved and critisized in the same way. Reflektor is the first single and was suitable for introducing a good album -in my opinion-.

2. Novedades Carminha - Jódete y baila

Es uno de mis grupos en castellano preferidos, canciones rockeras y desenfadadas para moverse y pasarlo bien. Jódete y baila es de esas canciones gamberras que te dan muchas ganas de irte de concierto, disfrutar de buena música y bailar con una cerveza en la mano. Y sí, la chica de la portada es Alba Galocha.

It is one of my favourite Spanish bands, rock hilarious songs for dancing and having a good time. Jódete y baila is one of that 'naughty' and funny songs that make you feel like going to a live performance, enjoying the music and dancing while you are holding a beer in your hand. And that's it, Alba Galocha is on the cover of the album.

3. The Knife - Heartbeats

No sé si es su mejor álbum, pero desde luego sí el más conocido. El archirrepetido Heartbeats y el encanto electrónico que desprende todo el disco es inigualable. Creo, sin exagerar, que he llegado a tener esa necesidad de escuchar Heartbeats una vez al día para sentirme bien.

I do not know if it is their best album, but it is the one most of the people know. The overplayed Heartbeats and that electro charming in the whole album is unique. I am not exaggerating if I say that I have really needed to listen to Heartbeats once every day.

4. Lorde - Team

Y esta ha sido la revelación para mí. Lorde no se acerca a los estilos de música que suelo escuchar, pero su disco me ha sorprendido para bien. Tiene talento y varios temazos, me quedo con Team como podría haber elegido cualquier otro.

And this is my last discovery. Lorde is a bit far from the music genres I tend to listen to, but her album has amazed me. She is really talented and has created some big hits, I choose Team even if I could have picked up any other -the whole album is brilliant-.

5. Triángulo de Amor Bizarro - Estrellas místicas

Siempre que hago una lista de reproducción no puede faltar Triángulo de Amor Bizarro. Es muy difícil que una canción de ellos no me guste, y de su último disco esta es, probablemente, mi preferida. Intuía que sería uno de sus singles y efectivamente, lo ha sido.

Everytime that I create a playlist I include a song by Triángulo de Amor Bizarro. It is almost impossible that I dislike any of their songs, and I think that this is probably my favourite one from the last album. I thought this would become a single and it was finally true.

6. Haim - Forever

Hace poco escuché a este trío de hermanas por primera vez. El vídeo de esta canción me gustó por su estética cuidada, y la melodía tan pegadiza y ochentera me encantó. Ya llevo escuchado la mitad de su álbum debut Days Are Gone y espero terminarlo hoy mismo.

A few days ago I listened to these three sisters for the first time. I liked the music video because of the aesthetics; I think it is pretty well done. The tune is so catchy and from the eighties that I loved it. I have listened to the half of the album Days Are Gone so far and I expect I will finish it today.

7. Kanye West - Blood On The Leaves

Ya a finales de verano me decidí a escuchar Yeezus, y después de una buena temporada dándole varias escuchas -sobre todo a Black Skinhead-, me ha cautivado Blood On The Leaves. Uno de los mejores temas del disco en mi opinión. Por si fuera poco por la música en sí, las letras de West son afiladas y críticas.

When last summer was ending I decided I had to listen to Yeezus. After a long time listening to it -specially Black Skinhead-, I have become obssessed with Blood On The Leaves, which is one of the best ones in the whole album; from my point of view. In addition of the excellent melodies, West´s lyrics are sharp and are full of criticism.
